THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

I feel like Tohru can almost get along with anyone in this show. (Akito being an exception for now)

Got to see Ayame interact with her this epsiode and like Yuki, he has a similar personality. Pretty amusing show as usual. I love how the Zodiacs acts like dork sometimes. That being said, Ayame does stand out quite a bit as a character imo.

BL-bait is so strong here, lmao.

Seems like the anime fell into Souma-of-the-week formula for now but it's still fun to watch, nothing much happens but knowing that it'll be a full adaptation makes these little details that might come into play later on all the more enjoyable.

BEST BOY AYAME IS FINALLY HERE 5/5

This anime continues to amaze me with its careful, detailed adaptation of the manga. They are keeping most scenes and jokes in, instead of rushing the material, and I am incredibly grateful for that.

You mean like the previous episode was all about Yuki and his trauma with Akito but

Yep. They will all become important as the story progresses. :)

This episode pretty much adapts Chapters 21 and 22 of the manga, being the equivalent of the 2001 anime's 14th episode. Like recent episodes, nothing too major was changed here. Here were differences I noticed in this episode:

-As Ayame transformed back to human form, there’s a removed bit from the manga where Tohru realizes the relation between Yuki and Ayame.
-When Tohru remarks on Ayame looking like an “adult Yuki”, she made another remark in response to him in the manga regarding his long hair.
-Ayame and Tohru eat out at a Chinese restaurant instead of a ramen shop in the manga. In addition, the restaurant staff were questioning Ayame’s gender in the manga instead of a pair of customers leaving.
-The flashback showing a desperate young Yuki attempting to go to Ayame and being rejected comes later on in chapter 36 of the manga.
-Tohru’s analogy about reflecting on things in childhood as an adult had some lines changed for the anime.
-Ayame and Tohru’s brief banter about the gyoza served to them was added for the anime.
-When Yuki greets Tohru when she returns home, he is barefoot in the manga instead of wearing socks.
-The scene at the end of Chapter 21 where Ayame in snake form is asking Shigure where he can sleep was removed for the anime.
-Ayame and Shigure’s kimonos worn during breakfast had pattern designs in the manga that were simplified for the anime.
-When Ayame remarked he would sleep in Tohru’s room tonight, she was blushing in response to his remark in the manga. In addition, Tohru’s remark on Ayame being at the house for a third day was removed for the anime as well.
-While at school, Momiji and Haru wore different clothes in the manga instead of their school uniforms with Momiji being in a short sleeved shirt and shorts, while Haru had a tanktop and shorts while sitting down. Plus while cleaning outside, the stairway Tohru and the boys were on was only a couple long steps and not two flights of steps.
-The reaction to what Ayame’s shop does for business is depicted in an exaggerated stick figure style in the manga.
-Some of Tohru’s observations of the photo album with the Mabudachi Trio were removed from the anime.
-Following Ayame’s speech to the school board and parents in flashback, there is a removed scene in the manga showing board members dragging Ayame out of the room, with Hatori visibly annoyed at the predicament and Ayame remarking he is tough.
-Following everyone’s reactions to Ayame’s student council story, there is a removed bit where Shigure comments that Hatori was made the student council president after Ayame’s predicament.
-Ayame’s story he tries to tell as an annoyed Yuki yells at him to leave was expanded for the anime.
-When Ayame decides to leave upon Hatori’s arrival, there is a removed scene where Hatori is asked by Tohru how he got to the house and he revealed he drove by car. Ayame offers to drive home and Kyo gets irritated at Ayame wanting to suddenly go home when he was adamant on staying.
-The photo shown of the Mabudachi Trio as Ayame comments on the qualities that Hatori has and that he lacks was added for the anime.
-Tohru reflecting on her mother’s wisdom about coming to terms on admiring some of a person’s qualities was added for the anime.

Just a heads up, this is officially labeled "1st season" and there's 6 blurays with 4 episodes each listed on the website. So this season will be 24 episodes. No word on when season 2 will start

Yes, I need new figures, the old big ones are terrible (especially Tooru's face), not to mention almost impossible to find. It they only make Tooru, Yuki & Kyou, I will be happy (but I'd love all 13 zodiacs, Tooru and Akito, maybe even Hanajima and Uotani). It would be possible with small trading figures. I doubt they would make big prepainted figures of so many characters. But I feer we will get none, only keychains and other goods. Shoujo anime rarely gets figures unless it's crazy popular and unless it has some big anniversary. T__T I want figures of Akatsuki no Yona and Skip Beat, but I know we will never get them. T__T Then again, this IS a 2nd anime the manga is getting and it IS a whole manga adaptation, so hope dies last. :P

Oh boy. Clothes on the road. Incoming Zodiac. I love how the snake just bolts for Tohru's clothes. Kyo's hatred of leeks can literally never get old. I love the raw anger in Yuki's eyes. It isn't unheard of for something besides physical contact causing a transformation, so I'm not too surprised the cold can transform Ayame. Ayame certainly seems like an... interesting person. He looks like an older and more flamboyant Yuki. I love his dynamic with Shigure. I love Tohru's reaction to being called a princess. I don't think Ayame knows the difference between a housekeeper and a princess, though. It's funny how Yuki and Kyo's immediate response was to angrily glare at Shigure. It was interesting hearing Ayame's perspective of why he actually came to the household; he just wants to be on good terms with his brother. What did Akito do to poor Yuki to be a "source of terror?" Tohru's mom continues to have some of the best mom-advice in anime. Of course Ayame was hiding in Tohru's clothes again. Kyo waking up to find Ayame in his bed was hilarious. I don't think its the kind of store you think it is, Tohru. That's a pretty decent strategy to getting what you want: Just confuse your opponent. I was just as lost as that teacher was. How Ayame became the student council president is beyond me. Shigure casually admittedly "something really extreme" was amusing. Ayame's speech was brilliant. I love how he openly declared that he was a bottom. Ayame was pretty quick to listen to Hatori there. I guess I can see the similarities between Hatori and Tohru. At least it looks like Yuki grew a small amount of that. Maybe we will get to see him bond further with his brother as the show progresses.

I was looking forward to seeing Ayame again and he wasted no time in making this one of the funniest episodes so far. ^_^

With his long hair and his unique choice in clothes, Ayame is a fabulous man, always up close to Tohru and trying (and failing) to improve his relationship with his younger brother, Yuki. His stories, too, were also hilarious, especially when he defended the students and their sexual desires at the crunch meeting as the student council president. XD

It was also interesting to understand why he always listens to Hattori and respects him for having something that Ayame himself doesn't have, rather than acting all hostile and jealous. It makes Ayame more likeable that way. =)

Looking forward to the next episode as always.

The question should by is Ayame gay? If it’s true that he likes men sexually, then
he is probably bisexual. And I think Hatsuharu “Haru” is bisexual because he loves Yuki and still transforms when hugging a girl (Tooru).

And there is also the possibility that the author wants to show the Snake zodiac personality traits like being charming and seductive and love fashion. but the talkative and dramatic part of Ayumi is from his other zodiac the Sagittarius.

Anyway, I think Ayame is just fooling around and it seems that Shigure is also into this sort of fun.

I loved Ayame, and it was sad to see Yuki and Kyou treating him as a pain, to be fair invading Kyou's room was a bit much lol, but I loved to hear the stories of his high school days, and I love how Tooru was also able to touch him as soon as they had a chance to talk. And his talk about how he wish he had said this or done that, was really poignant and I think most of us can relate to it.

Building bridges is way harder than building walls and/or keeping your distance, but I do belive there are cases in which it's worth it. And as Tooru said: it's not to late for them, especially because Ayame really seems to care about his little brother. I love just how much Tooru absorbed from her mother, and just how well she manages to convey it by the way, she is indeed a treasure. And I loved Haru's smile in the end after Yuki thanked him for caring.

Very good episode. Very similar to the old anime. The only thing I didn't like is Ayame having too long eye lashes. While Tooru has none. Both are annoying to me. He was handsome in the manga and old anime, but he looks too girly here. While Yuki is supposed to look more girly than he does. Also annoying, that change. Then, next episode is finally about

That was very appreciable to discover Yuki's bro, he indeed is the total opposite of him ! Though usually the snake's an animal seen as negative (many mythologic believes tend to consider it as a liar, the one who pushes you to commit sin) but in Fruits Baskets, he appears like a very talkative & confident person.

I noticed the OP & ED did not change, so it somehow indicates that the current season will have at least 25 episodes. Thank god we'll still get to watch this show every Friday !

I don't think their sexual orientation matters for the transformation...
